Graduate Nurse Residency Program

Graduate Nurse Residency Program

St. Luke's Episcopal Health System offers new graduate nurses the opportunity to participate in a planned and mentored first work experience.

The program provides the new graduate with classroom activities, clinical experiences, and ongoing support as they pursue their career. Participants are hired for the January, June and September programs.

The program is designed to provide an intensive, mentored clinical work experience that will assist the new nurse to develop the knowledge, skills, and flexibility to become a competent professional. New graduate nurses will participate in an orientation program for a minimum of 8-10 weeks and receive ongoing support for one year.

Current Programs:

Nursing Summer Externship

Applications for Summer 2010 Externship Program will be accepted starting mid December 2009.

Our Summer Student Nurse Extern program is a 9 week summer session offering clinical exposure for nursing students enrolled in an accredited ADN or BSN program who are entering their last year of courses. We provide a combination of both application of clinical skills and classroom learning activities. The Student Nurse Extern is paired with an RN preceptor for the duration of the program and will assume his/her time schedule. Student Nurse Externs will assist their preceptor in the delivery of direct patient care thereby, assisting the extern in assimilation of content.

Objectives

Provide student nurses with the opportunity to enhance their clinical skill level through the application of theoretical knowledge gained through their nursing program. Assist student nurses' entry into practice and ease the transition from student to professional nurse.
